Leo Russomanno practices exclusively in criminal law. He graduated from the University of Ottawa with a law degree in 2007 and obtained a Master’s Degree in International Politics from Carleton.

Leo believes firmly in the role of defence counsel in resolutely defending clients, no matter what the case, and to advance any reasonable defence regardless of how it may be perceived by the public at large. He believes in loyalty to the client. He has tried all manner of cases from sexual assault, robbery, firearms, drug cases, terrorism, and murder. Leo also taught criminal law classes in the Law and Legal Studies Department at Carleton University for four years, and currently teaches first year criminal law at the University of Ottawa Common Law program.

Throughout his career, Leo has defended cases involving police misconduct and has successfully brought Charter applications in a number of cases. He is consulted with regularly in the media on pertinent criminal justice issues, and as an Ottawa Director of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association he has been invited dozens of times to speak to Parliamentarians on criminal legislation.

Leo has a reputation in the Ottawa bar as being a passionate advocate for his clients and also with having a well honed understanding of the criminal law and the law of evidence. Leo is a trial lawyer, through and through, and believes in advancing the cause of social justice inside and outside of the courtroom.
